Zombie Kidz Evolution is one of the best family games we have ever played! From four to eighteen, all kids (and many parents) will love this one. What makes it so great? Well not only is it a fast paced and engaging cooperative game, it’s a legacy game, meaning new content opens up as you play it. There are 13 sealed envelopes included that change the game in very fun and interesting ways as you play matches and complete unique missions.

The basic gameplay is quite simple, but don’t be fooled by this, as content is opened it becomes much more strategic. However, we were extremely impressed at how this was gradually introduced so that it didn't overwhelm even younger kids. And everyone absolutely loved being able to open the envelopes to see what new twist was added next. You will even want to keep playing once all envelopes are opened. Nothing is destroyed like in other legacy games and the final rule set is fun and replayable.

While this doesn’t have as strong of an educational element as other games we review, it is probably the best game we’ve found for building a sense of teamwork. The kids get so excited about working together to complete the missions and open new envelopes.

Enhanced Rules

This is one of the very few games for which we have not used custom rules.

Fast Facts

How many players?

  • Playable with 2 - 4
  • Best 2 - 4

What ages can play?

  • Playable for ages 4* to Adult
  • Best for ages 6 to Adult
*We've found that young kids can play and enjoy this game as long as an adult or older child plays along to help with strategy. Young kids will be able to understand the moves each character can do, but may have trouble figuring out the best ways to tie them all together if they're not used to games like this. However, young kids will definitely love unlocking the new content that comes with completing missions.

Can different skill levels or ages play together?

Yes, this is a cooperative game so more experienced players will be able to help young or new players.

How long does it take to play?

10-20 minutes

Will we get bored after a few games or does it have good replayability?

Unlocking the new content will keep everyone wanting to play this game for quite some time. And even better, it's still a very fun game to play when all the content is unlocked.

Setup/Cleanup

How much work is it?
Low. There aren't too many components in this game.

Would kids be able to do it on their own?
Yes, but someone will need to be able to read the missions if the group wants to try and complete one.

Will parents have fun too...

...when playing with the kids?
Yes. The game will seem a little simple at first, but becomes more strategic and interesting as new content is unlocked.

...without the kids?
Yes, while this won't be as deep as other strategy games, is fun and fast paced with enough strategy to be interesting. It can also be quite challenging by the end, even for adults. Plus, who wouldn't love opening those envelopes and seeing the game evolve?

Educational Value

What skills will this game help develop?

Team Problem Solving
Because this is a cooperative game, all players work together to "beat" the board. And with those envelopes on the line, players will be really motivated to find creative strategies to make that happen.

But will my kids actually have fun playing it?

Yes, this is a very fun game.

Custom Rules

This is one of the few games we have not felt a need to customize. Plus, because the rules are naturally evolving as content in the game is unlocked, this would be hard to do without giving away some of those awesome surprises.

Do you use custom rules we haven't thought of? If you have found some other ways to customize the rules, please share them with us through our Contact page. We're always interested in new ways to improve gameplay.
